Brought up by a father who was a national level sprinter, Vinit Rai’s footballing career started in Assam. He was roped in by the Tata Football Academy at a tender age of 13 and after graduating, earned his first professional contract with Dempo SC. He was picked up by Kerala Blasters for Hero ISL 2016, for whom he played two games. He was then loaned out to Minerva Punjab FC for Hero I-League 2017 and a move to Delhi Dynamos followed. The central midfielder hit the ground running and was brilliant for Delhi in Hero ISL 2017-18. The youngster’s second season for the capital club, however, wasn’t quite as productive as his first – something he will look to rectify this season with Odisha FC. Vinit is already a full India international and is regarded as one of the most promising midfielders in the country.
