One of the new foreign recruits for Odisha FC this season is Spanish defender Hector Rodas who has arrived in India with plenty of competitive experience under his belt. The 33-year-old opened up regarding his football career and a lot more in this part of our series - My Love for Football.

Love for football

Hector:
In Spain, soccer is lived with a lot of passion and intensity. I started playing at a very young age on the streets with my friends and we spent hours and hours.  Then, I would come back home and keep watching my idols on TV.  Football is my life.

Childhood role model

Hector:
I liked a lot of players but in the end, I looked at those who played in my position. Fernando Hierro and Paolo Maldini.  They were leaders in their teams, they dominated many facets of the game but above all, they were good defenders.

Biggest inspiration

Hector:
My parents made a great effort and they are the ones who instilled in me the most important values.  Discipline, humility, work, empathy, and many more that allowed any child's dream to achieve. My dream was to play in the first division (La Liga) for many years. At present, my maximum inspiration comes from my two children and my wife who give me energy and happiness each day.

Other Sports he follows

Hector:
I have a degree in the science of physical activity and sports. Therefore, I love sports in general and as a lifestyle. I follow basketball, tennis, athletics, etc.

Aim and aspirations

Hector:
Continue enjoying football at a good level for more years.  Now, I am in India to make know the football that I have inside and help my teammates with my experience to be better players every day.  Thanks to Odisha FC that I am in a project that motivates and excites me and I hope to help them grow in the Indian Super League.

The biggest moment of his career so far

Hector:
I have been fortunate to experience great moments in all the teams where I have been.  Several promotions to the first division with Real Betis, LevanteUD, and Cercle Brugge for example.  But for me, the moment I lived with the most enthusiasm was with Levante UD. Together with my teammates, I managed to save the club from a difficult situation. In five years, we went from playing in the second division to playing 1/8 of the Europa League and keeping it for several years in the best league in the world.  To this feat, I add the sentimental factor of being at the club in my neighborhood and that I train as a person and a player for 17 years. It was a unique experience.
