In their eighth game of the ongoing Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL), the Juggernauts were defeated by a big margin of 6-1 goals at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. After Hector Rodas’ own goal, Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a brace, Edu Garcia and Siverio scored one each while Joao Victor netted one from the spot. On the other hand, an own goal by Juanan was the only thing that went in favour of OFC in the entire match.

We would like to thank all our fans who have supported us through and through. Last night was tough to swallow for all of us at Odisha FC and everyone associated with #TheJuggernauts.

The game started with Hyderabad FC creating some chances from the very beginning. They got a free-kick in the ninth minute which was deflected goalwards by Ogbeche. It took a deflection off Hector and went into the goal.

However, Odisha FC was quick to react and came back strong after going 1-0 down early in the match. Juanan’s deflection from an Odisha FC corner went on to hit the back of the net and that was the equalizer in the 16th minute. The Kalinga Warrior dominated the proceedings after that by creating chances after chances.

Two minutes later, Nandhakumar Sekar put a brilliant cross for Jonathas De Jesus. But, the latter’s attempt was saved by Laxmikant Kattimani. In the 21st minute, it was Isaac Vanmalsawma who hit the upright after getting a cross from the Brazilian. Another chance for the Bhubaneswar-based side went in-vain in the 27th minute as well.

Ogbeche headed the ball past Kamljit Singh after getting it from a pinpoint corner in the 39th minute and HFC got the lead back. Nothing much happened after that in the exciting first half apart from yet another attempt by Javi Hernandez which went just wide.

The second 45 minutes were completely different as HFC started dominance from the beginning of the second half. Nine minutes into the half, Edu Garcia ran the ball from the midfield and fired a shot to double the lead for HFC.

Although Coach Kiko made a few changes in the second half, OFC’s luck remained the same. Ogbeche scored his second and HFC had a three-goal lead after the end of an hour. Javier Siverio headed the ball into the back of the net in the 72nd minute to make it 5-1. Siverio was in action again when he won the penalty which was eventually, converted by Victor quite convincingly.

Odisha FC will now take on Mumbai City FC in their next game on Monday, 3rd January 2022.
