Odisha FC Falls 3-1 to Gokulam Kerala FC in IWL
Odisha FC suffered a damaging 3-1 defeat to Gokulam Kerala FC on Saturday at the Kalinga Stadium in the Indian Women’s League encounter. The match started with Odisha pushing aggressively, but they couldn’t capitalise on their early chances.
Both teams came out strong in the opening minutes, but Odisha goalkeeper Shreya Hooda made a crucial save to deny Gokulam. Just two minutes after coming on, Anshika made a fantastic save, parrying away a dangerous set-piece from visitors.
Despite Odisha’s strong efforts, Gokulam took the lead in the 32nd minute. Odisha continued to press, but Jennifer’s attempt from just outside the box in the 36th minute went wide. In the 43rd minute, Gokulam doubled their lead. In injury time, Anshika made another vital save to deny Fazila Ikwaput’s shot, and though Odisha had a couple of chances to score, the Gokulam defense stood rock solid to clear the danger each time.
The second half saw Odisha FC up the ante. In the 50th minute, Neha scored a spectacular long-range goal, pulling one back for Odisha and giving them hope. Just three minutes later, Jennifer played a brilliant pass to Piyari, but her shot was saved by the Gokulam goalkeeper.
Gokulam extended their lead in the 59th minute, making it 3-1. Odisha FC continued to push forward, and in the 65th minute, Linda’s header was tipped over the bar by the Gokulam keeper. With time running out, Odisha made a substitution, bringing on debutant Raziya in the 73rd minute. Raziya had a chance to score, but her header was easily saved by the Gokulam goalkeeper.
Despite continued efforts to salvage a point, Odisha FC could not break through, and Gokulam held firm to secure a 3-1 victory.
With their title hopes all but over, Odisha FC will look ahead to their next match against local rivals Nita FA on 21st March.
