Odisha FC thrash Hyderabad FC in dominant display
Odisha FC returned to winning ways with a clinical performance at the Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad on Monday. A commanding 6-0 win over Hyderabad FC marked OFC’s biggest win in the Indian Super League, besides bringing the season’s first clean sheet.
The Kalinga warriors wasted no time asserting their dominance, creating two early chances within the first 10 minutes. Mourtada Fall's header from the middle of the box was blocked, while a Roy Krishna attempt struck the left post — both assisted by Ahmed Jahouh.
But Odisha FC did not have to wait long to find the breakthrough. Isak Vanlalruatfela slotted home a close-range shot right into the bottom left corner in the 12th minute, assisted by Hugo Boumous.
Diego Maurício doubled the lead in the 30th minute with a composed finish from the box after a juicy ball, giving Odisha breathing space.
Odisha were in no mood to rest and went all out in the second half. An error by the hosts saw Odisha extend its lead in the 51st minute, when Lalbiakhlua Jongte deflected Jerry Mawihmingthanga's attempt into his own net.
The onslaught continued and Jahouh’s precise cross from the left found an unmarked Mourtada Fall in the 70th minute, with the defender making no mistake with the finish. The night got worse for the hosts five minutes later, when Mauricio's sharp cutback found Puitea, who calmly slotted the ball into the net.
The rout was completed in the 89th minute, when Mauricio set up substitute Rahim Ali for the sixth, ensuring the visitors’ biggest win in the league.
Odisha FC return home to face Bengaluru FC at the Kalinga Stadium on December 1, 2024, at 7:30 PM IST.
