HFC vs OFC: Pre-Match Presser

OFC Communications Team
November 04 2022

Ahead of our clash against Hyderabad FC, Josep Gomau and Thoiba Singh addressed the media at the pre-match press conference.

Here are some excerpts from the presser:

Tough game against the team which is currently at the top of the table. They have been consistent over the last few years. Your initial thoughts...
"It will be a nice game to play. They are a very good side and are unbeaten this season which is a good challenge for us to go there and win. I think it will be a game between two teams who want to play in a certain style and we are a team that likes to keep the ball more while Hyderabad is more direct. In my mind, it is a difficult game but if we do the right things we will be able to break them down."

You must be looking forward to this game as it promises to be good. How do you mentally prepare yourself and the team for a challenge like this?
"We have been working hard and preparing well in training. The boys know very well what we need to do with and without the ball. We have been speaking about instilling a winning mentality within the squad. It is also a good challenge for us to prove ourselves and say that we are here to establish ourselves in the league this season."

4 games have been played. What are the differences that you are noticing between this season and the last season when you were here?
"I have seen a lot of difference if we were to compare both the seasons. The league has grown exponentially in the last few years. I have noticed that the level of football has increased along with the quality of players coming in. We prepare game by  game without keeping the outcome in our minds."

We have got a lot of feedback from the fans this year, especially after 2 back-to-back wins. What do you have to say about playing at home considering the fact this has become a strong point for the team this year where teams find it difficult to come here and get a result?
"I think playing at home has its own advantages. You are in front of your fans and they bring you this extra power when you are tired. We played two difficult games at home. It feels very good to play at home and we want to keep this run going."

Thoiba Singh:

A third season for you with Odisha FC. How has your journey been so far and what are your thoughts on the season so far?

"In my first year here I suffered an injury that ruled me out for the entire season. The next season for me was difficult to make a comeback into the squad but it has been a very special journey for me with OFC and I am really happy."

How has your experience been playing under Josep Gombau?
"It has been a wonderful experience for me to play under him because he adds a lot of value to each and every one of us. The most important thing is that he is a really nice human being. He has helped me out a lot. I had a conversation with him at the beginning of the season where he told me about his expectations and what he wants from me. Since then I have been working hard to prove myself."
