Protecting the Environment while Serving Coffee - Koraput coffee

Odisha is known for its rich and vibrant cultural heritage but nowhere will you find traces of coffee until a few years back. The King of Koraput ‘Rajbahadur Rama Chandra Deo’ established a coffee plantation in Koraput in the 1930s, however, it never achieved commercial viability, until Koraput coffee was launched in 2019 when cultivating coffee was seen as an alternative to “Podu” or shifting agricultural practices for the tribals of Koraput district, which has all the ideal conditions required for the cultivation of this crop.

Koraput Coffee grows and markets the Arabica variety of coffee through its stores online and offline. The coffee is grown organically here. They also own cafes in Koraput, Bhubaneswar, and Puri where you can hang out with your friends and family while enjoying the homegrown wild coffee.

Their outlet in the Ekamra Kanan, botanical garden of Bhubaneswar gives you the luxury of spending some quality time with a nice coffee alongside nature.

It allows you to escape from your busy and tiring schedules and has some time for yourself when you can work on your own self. This has changed the whole dynamics of cafes and restaurants in Odisha which are mostly fancy. This minimalistic approach of them is one of the reasons behind their success.

With the support of the Government of Odisha, Koraput Coffee has been able to be successful in its mission. ‘Mansi Nimbhal’, an IAS officer is the managing director of Koraput Coffee and leads the team. Their vision is to safeguard the environment in addition to serving you the greatest coffee possible.

They aspire to create an ecosystem where profitability and reforestation coexist by putting a stop to the reliance of tribal farmers on Podu farming and encouraging and training them to plant trees that restore the natural ecosystem. The livelihoods of the people are also supported by this initiative.

In an era of worldwide emergency of protecting the forests to prevent our own extinction, this is one of the most significant and thoughtful ways of dealing with it.
