Odisha Football Club registered its second win in the ongoing Hero Indian Super League 2021-22 (Hero ISL 2021-22) in Goa. The team from Bhubaneswar got the better of neighboring SC East Bengal in a 10-goal thriller on Tuesday at the Tilak Maidan Stadium, Vasco. Hector Rodas (33’, 40’) and Aridai Cabrera (71’, 90+2’) scored two goals each while Javi Hernandez (45’) and Indian youngster Isaka Ralte (82’) also got their names on the scoresheet for OFC as they beat SCEB by 6-4 goals.

The Red and Golds opened the scoring in the 13th minute of the match when Daren Sidoel managed to find the back of the net after Odisha FC’s clearance from Raju Gaikwad’s throw fell near his right foot. The Kalinga Warriors came close to equalize in the 23rd minute but eventually they scored their first goal in the 33rd minute. Javi’s deep free-kick into the box was nicely headed by his compatriot Hector Rodas and that was his first goal for the Kalinga Warriors.

Hector soon scored the second goal as well. It was in the 40th minute when Odisha FC got a corner. Javi and Hector combined for the second time in seven minutes and OFC took the lead. Again, just before the end of the first half, Odisha got another corner and this was converted as well but this time in some style by Javi himself. Javi scored an Olympic goal which doubled the lead for the Bhubaneswar-based team going into the break.

Both the coaches made a few changes in the initial phase of the second half but OFC continued its dominance. Like the first game, Aridai Cabrera again scored after coming off the bench. This time, it was a free-kick which was converted wonderfully by the Spanish forward in the 71st minute. East Bengal, however, pulled one back in the 80th minute via Thongkhosiem Haokip who headed the ball past Kamlajit Singh after getting the ball from a Mohammed Rafique cross.

Two minutes later Isaka Ralte nailed the ball into the back of the net from Isaac Vanmalsawma’s pass to become OFC’s first Indian goal-scorer of the season. The youngster from Mizoram also registered his maiden Hero ISL goal during the process. Although SCEB’s  Daniel Chukwu scored twice (one of which was a penalty kick) before the final whistle, those were not enough to save them from a two-goal defeat. Jonathas De Jesus’ and Aridai showed great combination in the attacking third and Aridai sent the ball past Suvam Sen to ensure a thrilling win for Kiko Ramirez’s boys.

Odisha FC will now take on Kerala Blasters FC in their next game of the Hero ISL season on 5th December 2021, Sunday at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco.
