Odisha FC Bow Out of Kalinga Super Cup 2025 After 3-0 Defeat to Punjab FC

Odisha FC wrapped up their 2024-25 campaign on a respectable note, finishing 7th in the Indian Super League standings. However, their journey in the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 came to an end on Monday evening, as they suffered a shocking 3-0 defeat against Punjab FC at the Kalinga Stadium.

Despite the home crowd behind them, the Kalinga Warriors couldn’t capitalize on their chances and were made to pay for missed opportunities.

The first half saw Odisha FC come close to equalizing after Punjab took an early lead. In the 36th minute, Brazilian striker Dorielton found himself in a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper, but with the goal at his mercy, he dragged his shot wide in what was arguably the best chance of the night. Just moments later, Hugo Boumous unleashed a sharp effort from inside the box, but Punjab’s keeper Muheet pulled off a superb save with his outstretched leg.

Odisha FC came out with renewed intent in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Hugo once again danced through defenders with a silky dribble before letting fly, only to be denied by Muheet once more. The Warriors pushed forward but were hit on the counter as Punjab FC doubled their lead in the 69th minute.

Odisha continued to push, and in the 81st minute, Diego made a driving run into the box and delivered a dangerous cross. However, Jerry Mawihmingthanga’s effort flew over the bar, keeping Odisha goalless. Punjab sealed the match in the 90th minute when Nihal Sudeesh beat the keeper and calmly slotted in the third to put the result beyond doubt.

With this loss, Odisha FC exit the Kalinga Super Cup, bringing their season to a close. While the result was not what the team hoped for, the campaign showed promise and moments of brilliance. The club and fans will now look ahead with optimism, determined to return stronger for the 2025-26 season.
