Odisha FC Eyes Important Win Against Sethu FC

After a disappointing run of three consecutive losses, Odisha FC Women will look to bounce back as they travel to Chennai to face Sethu FC in the Indian Women’s League 2024-25 on Thursday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

The Kalinga Warriors, currently 5th in the league table with 11 points, are determined to get back on the score sheet after their recent setbacks. Head Coach Crispin Chettri acknowledges the challenges his side has faced, but remains hopeful his team can make a late revival and secure three crucial points as they approach the business end of the season.

Odisha’s squad has been dealt a blow this season with key players such as Grace, Tanvi, Kajal, and Shreya suffering injuries. Chhetri confirmed that goalkeeper Shreya Hooda would be out for the remainder of the season. Reflecting on this, he said, “Shreya is out for this season, unfortunately. This is football, we have to accept that, and we can’t depend on just one player. Football is a team game, we win as a team and lose as a team, so everyone has to play as a unity, then the result will come automatically.”

Despite the challenges, Chettri remains optimistic ahead of the clash. “I know our performance has been down in the last three matches, but we have to support the team right now, and in the rest of the games, we have to enjoy, rather than just focusing on winning. After that, the results will automatically come. Against Sethu, we are going with a positive mindset, and we hope to get the three points,” he added.

Pyari Xaxa, a key addition who recently joined the team, is confident the squad is well-prepared. Speaking to the media, she acknowledged the importance of this game, especially after their recent run of poor results. “We will try to play better in this game, as we lost the last three matches and dropped valuable points. We trained hard, gave our 100 percent in training, and are fully prepared for the game,” Pyari stated.

When asked about how the team plans to approach the match against Sethu FC, Pyari emphasised the need to remain focused on the positives. “Sethu FC’s performance might be down this season, but they are still a very good team. We are training very well, and as the coach said, we’ll remember all the technical things and play with a positive mindset,” she added.
