After the rollercoaster year of 2021, Odisha FC is aiming to start the new year on a positive note on Monday against Mumbai City FC in Vasco, Goa. It is going to be a very important game for the Juggernauts with just one more remaining after this in the first half of the Hero Indian Super League (Hero ISL) 2021-22. After a disappointing show against Hyderabad FC, it remains to be seen how Coach Kiko Ramirez’s boys approach the next game.

On the other hand, the defending champions are at the top of the points table with 16 points from eight games. However, the Islanders are not in great form having lost to Kerala Blasters and their last game against NorthEast United ending in a tie.

Although the two teams are in different positions on the points table but their fortunes have been quite similar in their respective last two encounters. Odisha FC will definitely want to leave their last game’s performance and now they have an added defender in the form of Nikhil Prabhu who joined the Bhubaneswar-based side from HFC.

After their last game against Hyderabad, Head Coach Kiko had expressed, “No. We will try to digest this result. It's important to sleep well, wake up and prepare for the next match. It affects our mood now and how we feel. As for the season, it's very long. Also some of the mistakes that are happening match after match are affecting us. Today we played badly and lost 6-1. There were players who didn't work properly on the pitch. That's the reality and we lost 6-1.”

“Like you said, it was our first draw, and I thought we controlled the game for large periods. But what they did was they hit us on the transitional moments. I feel the first goal was at least five yards off-side. And then we need to defend better for the second two (goals). So yes, we want to play a certain way and they have demands both physically and otherwise. But when we attack, we also need to make sure that we are set up defensively,” MCFC gaffer Des Buckingham had expressed after their last game against the Highlanders.
