Odisha FC Suffer Disappointing 3-1 Loss to Sethu FC in IWL
Odisha FC’s barren run continued in the Indian Women’s League, as they were beaten 3-1 by Sethu FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai. Despite a consolation goal from Lynda in the dying moments of the match, it was a frustrating evening for the Kalinga Warriors.
The match kicked off with both teams showing plenty of intent, but Sethu FC drew first blood. Capitalising on home advantage, they surged ahead with two early goals within the first 15 minutes, putting Odisha FC on the back foot. The visitor’s goalkeeper, Anshika, was called into action early on and made some vital saves.
As the match progressed, Sethu FC continued to dominate and extended their lead to 3-0 before the halftime whistle. Odisha FC struggled to break down the opposition's defense, and before going into the halftime break, Kiran's free-kick went straight into the arms of the Sethu FC goalkeeper, adding to the frustration.
The second half saw Odisha FC create a few opportunities, with Pyari’s attempt from inside the box in the 62nd minute being comfortably collected by the goalkeeper. A minute later, Eliane had a shot from distance that also went straight into the goalkeeper’s hands.
In the 70th minute, Odisha came closest to scoring when Mariam’s header was directed toward the goal, only for Lynda to attempt a flick in, but it was well saved by the Sethu goalkeeper.
Despite their best efforts, Odisha FC couldn’t find the back of the net until the 6th minute of stoppage time, when Lynda scored a stunning left-footed shot from outside the box, sending the ball past the goalkeeper for a late consolation goal.
It was a very disappointing result for Odisha FC, who will now return home to regroup and prepare for their next match against Kickstart FC on April 2, 2025. The Kalinga Warriors will hope to bounce back quickly from this setback as they look to regain their momentum in the competition.
